We double-click and start the installation. The version manifest is the single source of truth for what versions there are. As simple as having downloaded, extracted and we have a file called: launcherfull-shiginima-v4400.jar. I have tried running the game from the technic launcher instead, passing the proxy parameters as java args, but this has no apparent effect. This directory will henceforth be referred to as. java -DsocksProxyHost127.0.0.1 -DsocksProxyPort8080 -Xmx800m -jar launcher.jar These are successful (I believe) in running the launcher through a proxy, but not the game itself (multiplayer). However, most of the files you download / generate will be in this directory. First make sure you can use java from the command line. For the official launcher this is one single directory, while in multi-instance launchers like MultiMC or HMCL, this directory can be customized according to the launcher. I will write about installing loaders like Fabric and Forge later on, but this is the most basic thing launchers should do. Installing a vanilla version is the basis for everything else. Through these harrowing interesting experiences, I have gathered a lot of knowledge about how Minecraft launchers actually work from the inside.Īnd I thought it would be nice to share this information with those of you who want to work on this topic yourself, since the current documentation isn’t very complete. Recently, I’ve been playing around with writing a Minecraft launcher from scratch, and also contributing to PolyMC and ManyMC.
